Open Source Project: The Trabian CMS

We first started Open Source CU as an idea exchange. Now we think it’s ready to become a code exchange as well.
Over the next few weeks we’ll start releasing our Content Management System as an open source project. This CMS is the tool we developed to allow non-technical staff at a credit union to keep their website updated. We hope that other credit unions can use it to keep their sites fresh and relevant.
We’ll also be looking for other projects that are either currently open source or are willing to become open source. If you have a project that you would like to share, please let us know.
By the way, it’s Rails-based and it’s spectacular.
This is truly exciting news! Thank you for launching the first CU focused Open Source software project. I believe this is the beginning of a revolution.

When do plan on releasing this? We’ve been thinking about implementing a CMS, so I’d love to check it out.

We’re planning to release the CMS gradually in a series of posts, first outlining the type of software (all free) you’ll need to have in place to host the CMS and then releasing it piece by piece. All existing installations of our CMS have been handled by yours truly, so I want to make sure it’s ready for general consumption and installation.
Having said that, I’m sure we could get the code in your hands if you’re up for it.

The more open source agile rails apps we can get into the hands of credit unions, the better. Are there any cu IT managers out there that would consider pooling some resources/efforts in open source CU products?

We’d love to find more people in the industry who want to pool resources/efforts. After our initial post, we (Trabian) got distracted by client projects, an exciting new project we hope to launch by the end of this year, and a move to Indiana. We’ve been talking a lot over the past few weeks about how we can get this kick-started again, and Trey’s going to be providing an update post to catch everybody up.
In the meantime, can you talk more about your development experience? Have you spent much time with Rails, and are there any specific tools that you are hoping we can pool our resources to develop?

This is great news. I just got off the phone with a company that was offering CMS but they were going to charge alot of $$. Is there a site where I can read more on the details?
I am an IT guy for a mid-size credit union. I would be happy to contribute some rails development to an opensource core-processing system.
