Five reasons to save October 3-4

Posted by Trey Reeme on May 15th, 2007

On October 3-4, we’ll be co-hosting a conference with FORUM Solutions here in Indy. At the Partnership Symposium, we’ll connect and collaborate about credit unions.

Why should you save the date?

  • Kickin Speakers. Right now they include: Jason Knight of Wesabe, Ron Shevlin of Epsilon, Guy Messick and Rob Rutkowski of CIiCU fame (and they’re darn good attorneys, too), Shari Storm of Verity CU, branding guru Denise Wymore, Lydia Johnson of Vancity, Doug True and Cam Minges of FORUM Solutions, and Trey Reeme (that’s me). Update: 5/17: Lisa Renner and Colin Henderson will also be speaking!
  • Interactive Content. We’ll be podcasting all sessions and vodcasting some, and all conversations will be shaped by the community. We’ll also set up live Twitter big screens in some sessions (for example Ron’s – since he loves the service so much).
  • You can be a speaker, too. We’re holding open auditions here on OSCU for a speaker slot. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never addressed an audience before or if you’re as seasoned as Chris Farley in a van down by the river. Submit your auditions in any format you’d like – text, audio, video – but were it me, I’d record a video about what I’d like to present, upload it to YouTube, and post the HTML for the video as a comment to this post.
  • It won’t cost an arm and a leg to attend. What else would you expect!? We’re going to keep the registration cost at $125 (nope, that’s not a typo), and the schwag will be top-notch: Moleskines, baby!
  • Talent Contest. Yes, the Trabian/FS band will be performing. Doug W. on drums, Brandon (our new developer) on percussion, Charlie on lead, Brent on rhythm, and Cameron P helping out on bass. Anyone can enter. I’m sure the prizes will make it worth embarrassing yourself on stage.

We’ll link to the online registration form when it’s available – it’ll be on the new FORUM Solutions website, launching very soon. In the meantime, shoot me an email if you have any questions.

What a great conference! I can’t wait to sign up!!! Cameron mentioned it when he and Shelley were here last week…we’re totally sold. I plan to go for sure & I think at least one other person.

BTW – thanks for all the great info on rss, blogs, twitter, etc from the wcul convention!!! we’re totally psyched to get started…we actually ducked out of our third session to see if anything was circulating in the blogosphere about educators…several posts about the educators in texas…but so far so good for us…or not so good…we didn’t find any conversation…maybe that’s why growth has been slow the last few years???

You almost have me convinced to come up from California for the event. So does the in-house band have some MP3s online so those of us unable to attend can check out the talent?

I will definitely check out the podcasts though.

That sounds like it’ll be pretty fun!

Add to the line-up another great speaker! Lisa Renner, CEO of Beyond Marketing, has just confirmed to speak about Trend Spotting – hot consumer trends and how the financial services industry is responding.

Man! I so badly want to be there. You’re only a couple hours away. But I’m working on getting out to San Francisco in December to finish my financial counselor certification, and I think asking for this would be pushing the limits a little. I’m already on a fine line trying to get out to this school. But I’ll see what I can do. :)

Dear powers that be at OSCU,

Here is my sales pitch for a speaker slot. My name is Tim McAlpine. I am president and co-creative director of Currency Marketing—The Credit Union Marketing Agency. I have been involved in building differentiated credit union brands since 1992. I would like to join the great list of speakers in Indianapolis on October 3-4, 2007. Currency Marketing is located in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada (one hour east of Vancouver). We help credit unions of all sizes create and promote a unique and compelling position in their marketplace.

Here are three topics to choose from.

    1) Where does traditional marketing fit into this new Web 2.0 world? A lively discussion on strategies to help your credit union integrate your marketing and communications efforts in both worlds—the social web and traditional marketing channels.

    2) How can you differentiate your credit union in a seemingly homogenous financial industry? In a world where financial institutions are as interchangeable as gas stations, how can your credit union possibly stand out?

    3) Is bigger really better (and totally necessary)? With mergers happening daily and credit unions clamoring to get bigger, does the small credit union even have a chance anymore? Absolutely!

Each of these presentations would be filled with strategies that you can use at your credit unions. I would also show good and bad credit union and non-credit union examples from throughout North America.

Whoops – must have posted the embedded code wrong. I guess “Posting Youtube code on blogs” won’t be my topic!

    Here is a URL instead.

Trey et al .. I am really looking forward to to this event!

@Trey/Kristi: I haven’t met Tim… but judging from what I’ve seen on his blog and his firm’s Web site, I think he’d have some interesting things to say and would be a great addition to the speaking lineup.

p.s. And if posting YouTube code on blogs is a prerequisite for speaking, I’m afraid I’ll have to turn in my badge. :)

Hello all! I really think Tim would be a great speaker for this lineup. I am his PR person … and he isn’t even paying me for this!!

He is knows his stuff, he is smart and funny … and he really has something to say! Put him in, coach!!!
