Bye-bye, WTFCU

Posted by Trey Reeme on May 30th, 2007

I wish we could have saved WTFCU.

Ron made a post calling it a credit union that needs a name change.

I would have preferred they keep it. It had built-in buzz. It made me smile. Alas, they changed it recently.

Their tagline could have been, “It stands for Washington Telephone Federal.”

By the way, I wish we could get our hands on some of their old schwag. Can anyone hook me up with a now-collectible WTFCU mousepad or koozie?

    “Signal Financial FCU?” WTF?!

I LIKE their new name. Simple, plain English instead of an synthetic abstract brand.

I applaud Signal Financial FCU on their new nomenclature, though I note their “Member FAQs” omit mention of the REAL reason for the name change.

    WTF!

They best change their URL right quick, then. :D

I’m with you, Trey—I think they should have kept it. I don’t really have a problem with Signal Financial, but what I’m disappointed in is the credit union’s apparent perspective that WTF was bad just because it has become a funny (and off-color, I know) acronym. But it was inherently interesting, and could have offered so much natural opportunity to be remarkable. But alas, no one yet seems willing to admit that money doesn’t have to be so darn serious.
