Symposium Update: Entertainment, a Challenge & Free Stuff!
Posted by Kelly Dean on July 24th, 2007
I know you are all incredibly pumped about The Symposium. We’ve got an awesome speaker line up with some amazing topics to learn about and discuss. I mean, how cool is a conference that holds open auditions for a speaker slot? Very cool!
Congratulations again to Tim McAlpine for being awarded that open slot, we can’t wait to see what’s in store.
Now for some updates.
The Entertainment
Now, for the rest of you who had your heart set on being center stage at The Symposium I have some good news. In the first Symposium post Trey alluded to a talent show and now it’s time to show us your talent. If you want to show off your skills please send me an email with your act description or post an example on YouTube and send us a link via email or in the comments of this post. We’ll put a set list together and allow you to compete for the grand prize.
The sad news is that the talent show is only going to be two hours long. We’ll run the show on a first come, first serve basis so send me your act information as soon as possible in order to make sure you get your spot on stage.
The Challenge
In speaking with some people who showed interest in The Symposium we heard talk of a possible road trip. Great idea!
We’d like to issue a challenge to all of you. If you’re having a hard time coming up with the funds to make it to this conference why not pitch the idea of a road trip? Connect with some local CUs and share the cost of travel. We’re even going to reward those who travel the farthest to make it.
Free Stuff
We’re giving away a copy of The Age of Conversation (a book co-written by about 100 bloggers including Ron Shevlin, one of our esteemed speakers) to the first 30 attendees to sign up.

Trey: I like your idea of a Road Trip and maybe doing some heart-to-heart evangelism with local CUs about it. I may be more ready to do that in any event.
For me, BarCampBankSeattle provided a real call to action, and inspiration to do more than simply write about credit unions on Chuck’s blog. CUs are not just alternative banks, they can help individuals to help themselves improve their lot in life.
