Texas FCU wants to know if you're paying attention

Posted by Brent Dixon on June 20th, 2008

Call 214-748-9556 and wait until all the options are given in the menu.

To quote Ben Rogers after listening to this, “Who says credit unions aren’t innovative?”

Have a good weekend, everyone.

(High five to George and Kelsey at Filene for passing this along.)

I’ll be the first to comment, but I won’t give away the surprise.

Excellent use of the phone systems and congratulations to them for seeing the humor in their processes.

    Sadly they weren’t the first.

National Discount Brokers did this back around 2000.

Reading up on it now: “At its peak, nearly 500,000 people called the line to hear [edited, don’t wanna spoil it], tying up the company’s phone system in the process.”

It cost them ~8k per day in 800 number fees but I guess it was was equivalent to 100 TV Commercials in publicity so for the price it was a wild success.

Since then it’s become a bit of a meme it seems. Which is fantastic since NBD (my broker) was bought out twice over it’s now is long gone and was one of my favorite things. I still miss it on other people’s menus.

But it does go to show that even for a stodgy Brokerage firm a tongue firmly planted in cheek can be quite becoming.

Brandon, you are a fun ruiner. But I love you anyway.

    =( So sorry.

    I still <3>

True story, in HS my room was decked out with Mallards. Oh yeah.

Yes, funny and all, but is anyone besides me significantly annoyed by nine-number phone option menus? (To be fair, it’s not as if Texas FCU is the only one that does it.)

Can someone spill what this is all about, for the non-US readers…
